TIger Papier-mâché

Tadah! It's been awhile seen we last post a craft here in our Art blog. We're done with our Clay Art Theme and we would like to thank you for all your support. We prepared some Halloween crafts for this month, We will post them probably next week. For the mean time, here's a papier-mâché that i made for my niece for her School project. She asked me to make an Animal papier-mâché and ended up having this cute little Tiger hehe.
Papier-mâché is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, sometimes reinforced with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch, or wallpaper paste.
To start, we need a bunch of Old newspapers, masking tape, Glue, and Acrylic paint. Forming the figure is actually the most crucial part of this art. I had several trials before getting the right form. Honestly, this is my very first successful Papier-mâché art. I tried making a helmet for a cosplay theme before but i failed. Anyway, you can use masking tape to make it more firm and steady.

After getting the desired form and shape, you can now start or apply the Papier-mâché by soaking the small pieces of newspaper into the home made glue (Mixture of flour and hot water). Actually, I am aiming to make a CAT but Milzon starting to tease me because it looks like a Monkey for him. haha Okay! I'm fine with the Monkey so from being a CAT our project turned to a MONKEY. Just continue doing the Papier-mâché until you have covered the entire figure. Make it as smooth as possible.

Let the glue dry first (by the way, if you don't know how to make your own glue, you can use those ready-made adhesive on the market though it is quite expensive than the home-made). After drying, paint you project with White poster or acrylic paint for quick drying.
Set aside the Papier-mâché art first and start tearing a piece of newspaper into small bits. The finer, the better. Soak them into a hot or warm water and mash them by your hands. Next, separate the water from the mashed paper using a drainer. Mix the mashed paper to the right amount of glue. Mash them together.
Now, you can have the tiny details using the that paper-glue mixture. So here, I put on the eyebrows and the whiskers. Let them dry first and re-coat it with white. Funny but after putting the Whiskers, Milzon was convinced that it is really a CAT. So from being a Monkey, we went back to the CAT status LOL
Now paint the Cat of whatever color you desire. Mine is orange. The first idea is to have a Plain orange cat but my mom told me that CAT should have stripes so I was forced to put stripes on my cat. However.......

After putting stripes, Mom told me that it looks like a Tiger and reminds her of Tigger from Winnie The Pooh! What??? So from being a Cat, it turned into a Monkey and went back from being a cat and now it's a Tiger!! hahaha

Anyway, no matter what animal is this, i think i did great and it is my very first Papier-mâché Art so I'm really proud of it yay!

Our Mini Triceratops

Today, we're making a Mini triceratops! Actually i was about to submit this craft to my friend Merryn when she was asking about dino crafts but then i lost all the photos so i failed to submit it.
My camera is not working right now that's why we can't post any art crafts these past few weeks. So i just made a graphical representation below of the step by step procedure on how to make Mini Triceratops.

Simply create 2 small dice or cubes. You can check the "dice" pattern here.

Glue the dices together.

Now get a green colored paper and cut something like this. This will serve as our triceratops head.

Make an open-ended cone.

Glue the head and the open-ended cone together.

We're done with the head.

Now attach the head to the body.

Add some details. Don't forget to add the three horns and the feet as well.

I Want a Shih Tzu

I took this photo while i was jogging early morning yesterday. I really want to have a doggie like this. It's hairy and i can comb her everyday. I think this is a Shih Tzu! I had a Shih Tzu before though i failed to take care of her and she passed away too soon. I have learned so much from that incident and i promised myself that it will never happened again. I promised to become a responsible owner to my pet and will do all my best to provide them the best proper care that they really deserved.
If you have or if had a Shih tzu before, I'm sure you know how sensitive they are and how demanding it could be to take care them. They do not like hot temperature and you have to turn the air conditioner on every time just for them. They are very sensitive to high temperatures indeed and they will experience difficulty in breathing once exposed to high temperature so long.
They need to be groomed in a regular basis too. Their fur tends to grow so long and you have to comb, cut or clip their hair to make them feel more comfortable.
You should take them to a well trusted Vet like that Vet Tacoma in Washington. They are known for providing high quality veterinary care with excellent and state of the art facility that each customer will enjoy. You can visit them at http://www.riverroadanimalhospital.com/ and see what else they can offer for your beloved pets.

Rabbit Lantern

We did this project last December and I guess it is very appropriate for our Easter-Spring Art Project Theme for this month. Here, let me show you our very own Rabbit Lantern again.

I just can't show the step by step illustration of our rabbit because it is quite complicated and it has so many details.

Using a copper wire we hold it and shape it like a rabbit. This will serve as the frame or the skeleton.

Then we cover it with Japanese Paper to make it translucent from the inside.

We cut small pieces of Japanese paper to make it looks like fur.

Adding more colors will make the rabbit more appealing.

Then we added small pen lights inside. We didn't use candle because it is quite risky and flammable.

Here i made a small wagon decorated by Poinsettia flowers. You can also use other flower decors.

Then add some colorful details in the rabbit. We used pink for the ears, added carrots and reading glass.

The Rabbit lantern is actually worth P250- 300. And has one light only.
Here are the Items that we used and their prices
Copper Wire P25
10 pcs assorted Japanese Papers P20
Glue P15
2 Pen lights P40
3 Red Blinkers P15
the rest are recycled
All in all we spent P120

Have a Happy Easter Art making Project guys!

Toy Giraffe

Remember the "Guess the Remaining Project" post? Today, we will reveal one of them. We Will make Toy Giraffe today out of an empty match box and drinking straws.

To start, we need one empty match box, one bendable straw, one ordinary drinking straw, Yellow, black and brown poster paint and a pair of Googly eyes

Glue the bendable straw on one side of the match box

Cut four drinking straws for about 2 - 2.5 inches high. These will serve as the legs of our Giraffe.

Be careful with the Glue Gun!

Now cut a small piece of cardboard and attach it on the tip of the bendable straw. This will serve as the head.

Start painting it with White poster paint as the primary coat. Having white as the base color will make other paints more bright and glossy.

Let it dry and then start painting it with yellow.

Now add the details including the spots, the ears and the eyes.
