The Star Lanterns

This is the part two of my Lantern Parade post. We're done with the Rabbit, now let's head to the Star Lanterns. High school presentation wasn't that nice compare to what elementary students did. It seems that they didn't put some efforts for the parade. Unlike when i was in high school, my batch did some cool presentation. There's also a Giant Lantern Parade where in all high school students from different school should present a giant lantern made out of recycled material. As far as i remember, we make use of the empty sea shells to make a giant lantern. Anyway, i took some photos of this year's Star Lantern parade.

Representatives from Cavite National High school. Simple transparent lantern with some glossy metallic papers hanging on them.

Students from Saint Joseph had a creative presentation of their lantern. They make use of Poinsettia and place it on the center of their lantern and then they put some garlands around it.

Chinese Paper lanterns

Pineapple lanterns?

The holy Family Representation (Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Angels and the Three Kings)

Angels busy talking to each other..

Closer look to one of the angels... Love the Wings..

Some wore Christmas Outfits like Santa Claus

The boring presentation of San Sebastian. Plain blue Star Lantern... nothing really special

I saw a bird, a plane... no it's Superman!!!

Oh and Batman Too LOL

Here's a glimpse of my next entry..... Will be posting about the Giant "Bangenges"

Rabbit Lantern

I just can't show the step by step illustration of our rabbit because it is quite complicated and it has so many details.

Using a copper wire we hold it and shape it like a rabbit. This will serve as the frame or the skeleton.

Then we cover it with japanese Paper to make it transluncent from the inside.

We cut small pieces of Japanese paper to make it looks like fur.

Adding more colors will make the rabbit more appealing.

Then we added small pen lights. We didn't use candle because it is quite risky.

Here i made a small wagon decorated by Poinsettia flowers to make it more Christmassy!

Then add some colordul details in the rabbit. We used pink for the ears, added carrots and reading glass.

And give him santa hat too!

The Rabbit lantern is actually worth P250- 300. And has one light only.
Here are the Items that we used and their prices
Copper Wire P25
10 pcs assorted Japanese Papers P20
Glue P15
2 Pen lights P40
3 Red Blinkers P15
the rest are recycled
All in all we spent P120

I will post about the Lantern Parade in my next post

Recycled Christmas Lantern

Our first project for this month is a recycled Christmas Lantern.

To start with, we need old Cds, Popsicle sticks, Plastic cups, Christmas garlands, and copper wire.

Glue gun the Popsicle sticks on the top of a cd. Form a star like this!

Now cover the the cd by another cd (on a flip position)

Cut a small piece of garland and attach them on each corner of our star. Use copper wire to attach the garlands on the Popsicle stick.

Make a hole on the center of our plastic cups.

Insert a copper wire inside the hole and lock it.

Attach the plastic cups at the lower part(legs of the star) of our lantern.

Attach a pair of garlands inside the plastic cups using copper wire.
There you have it, you can now hang it on your window or outside your house.
